Tel Aviv Honors Boy George for His Support for Israel and the LGBTQ Community

Boy George received a certificate of appreciation from Tel Aviv–Yafo Municipality and the city’s LGBTQ Center on Thursday evening, November 5. Asaf Zamir and Chen Arieli presented the recognition, which thanked the singer for his support for Israel and his contribution to LGBTQ equality, visibility and freedom. The certificate recognized his cultural and social influence across generations. It credited his music, courage and uncompromising self-expression with inspiring people to accept themselves. The recognition also highlighted the messages of love, human dignity and acceptance associated with his work. The certificate separately thanked the singer for standing alongside Israel during difficult periods. It expressed appreciation for his support for the country “during challenging times.” The presentation brought together recognition of his public support for Israel and his longstanding role as a cultural figure for the LGBTQ community. Boy George’s visit also includes two concerts at Tel Aviv’s Menora Mivtachim Arena. He performed there on November 4, with Israeli singer Ivri Lider joining him onstage. His previous appearance in Israel was in 2017 with Culture Club. A second concert is scheduled for November 7 at the same venue, where Israeli producer and DJ Offer Nissim is due to join him.
