Holocaust Survivor Eva Geller Dies at 90 After Bondi Terror Attack

Rabbi Aron Moss confirmed on Friday that Eva Geller, a 90-year-old Holocaust survivor seriously injured in the Bondi Beach terror attack, had died in hospital on Thursday night. Geller had undergone repeated hospital treatment and rehabilitation since she was shot during a Hanukkah celebration at Archer Park in Sydney on December 14, 2025. Moss said Geller had shown “incredible strength” during her recovery. She suffered serious leg injuries, and doctors initially warned that she would not walk again. Moss said she nevertheless regained the ability to walk and attended recent High Holiday synagogue services. She spent her final weeks at Prince of Wales Hospital. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Geller should have been able to celebrate Hanukkah peacefully and described the attack as terrorism and antisemitism. New South Wales Premier Chris Minns offered condolences to her family and the Jewish community. NSW Police acknowledged her death and said officers were awaiting advice while working with the coroner. Geller escaped the Holocaust as a child and came to Australia from Hungary with her mother and grandmother. She later became a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; her late husband was also a Holocaust survivor. The December attack killed fifteen people at the time. A funeral and memorial service are scheduled for Monday.
