Trump Names Stephen Miller to Replace Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff
President Donald Trump named Stephen Miller as the 33rd White House chief of staff on November 6, replacing Susie Wiles. Miller, currently a deputy chief of staff, will take up the post on Monday, November 9, 2026, according to the White House announcement. Trump said Wiles would move to his political operation. Trump described Miller as one of his most trusted advisers and thanked Wiles for her service. Wiles confirmed her departure in her own statement, saying: “Today is my last day as White House Chief of Staff.” She described serving Trump as an honor and said she was proud of the administration's work. The White House published a release collecting responses from administration officials. Vice President JD Vance thanked Wiles for her friendship and service and welcomed Miller's promotion. Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Wiles's work and said he looked forward to continuing to work with Miller. Brooke Rollins noted that Wiles was the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff. The release described Miller as an adviser who had worked alongside Trump from the beginning. Peter Navarro, quoted in the release, said he had worked with Miller since 2016 and recalled his earlier role as Trump's top speechwriter. The announced transition places Miller in the chief of staff's office after Wiles's final day on November 6.
