Arsenal Beat Hull City 1–0 to Move Six Points Clear
Arsenal beat Hull City 1–0 at Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday, 7 November, with captain Martin Ødegaard scoring the winner in the 72nd minute. The result put Arsenal six points clear at the top of the Premier League before Manchester City’s match against Nottingham Forest. Ødegaard converted the rebound after Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis saved Noni Madueke’s shot. Hull had threatened before the break, with John Egan heading a corner into the side-netting and Elliot Stroud forcing a save from David Raya. Tzolakis also denied Madueke and Christos Tzolis after halftime. A first-half shirt pull by Nobel Mendy on Kai Havertz prompted a review by referee Farai Hallam. The decision was a Hull free kick because Havertz was judged offside. After the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “We need to praise our players for the way they go about every game”. Hull coach Sergej Jakirovic said his team had defended bravely but needed quicker transitions and better decisions in possession. The goal was Ødegaard’s fifth of the season, and the result extended Arsenal’s sequence to seven consecutive home wins. Arsenal had also won 1–0 at Liverpool the previous weekend.
