Congress Donations Fall 75% to Rs 130.7 Crore in 2025–26

India’s Congress party reported Rs 130.7 crore in donations exceeding Rs 20,000 for 2025–26, down about 75% from Rs 517.4 crore in 2024–25. The figures come from its contribution report filed with the Election Commission. They cover reported contributions above the threshold, rather than the party’s entire income. Prudent Electoral Trust provided Rs 25 crore, about 19% of the total, and was the only electoral trust to donate to Congress during the period. Its contribution was down from Rs 216 crore in 2024–25, when it accounted for 41.8% of the party’s contribution receipts. The newer payment was 11.5% of that earlier amount. Other listed donors included Star Cement Ltd with Rs 5 crore, Sajjan Bhajanka with Rs 4 crore, Afnan Constructions with Rs 3 crore and Prem Kumar Bhajanka with Rs 2 crore. Nine contributions of Rs 1 crore or more supplied Rs 43 crore, nearly one-third of the total. The filing contained 1,735 entries, with a median contribution of Rs 3 lakh. At the smaller end, 1,321 contributions of Rs 5 lakh or less supplied Rs 37.2 crore, or 28.5% of the total. Congress’s 2025–26 audit report was not yet available. Its earlier 2024–25 audit recorded more than Rs 350 crore from issuing or selling coupons, a funding stream beyond the contribution figures in the new filing.
