Five Israeli Desalination Plants Shut Again After Partial Overnight Restart

Five of Israel’s six major desalination plants were offline Tuesday morning after Sorek A and B partially restarted overnight and then shut again as seawater turbidity rose. Ashkelon, Ashdod, Palmachim, Sorek A and Sorek B were halted, while Hadera remained operational. The Water Authority and Energy Ministry instructed local authorities to reduce landscaping, agriculture and other public water use, while officials said normal household supply would continue. A preliminary assessment linked the turbidity to microalgae possibly carried from the Nile Delta, and the National Cyber Directorate said the disruption was not a cyberattack.
