Serious Hazards Persist at 11 Negev Schools Serving 7,200 Pupils

Inspections at nine elementary and two secondary state-recognized schools in unrecognized Bedouin villages in the Negev found serious infrastructure failures affecting about 7,200 pupils. Ten schools had severe restroom defects, eight had damaged or crumbling walls and ceilings, and six had immediate electrical or fire hazards; none was connected to central sewage or had compliant on-site protection. Parent committee chair Mohammad Abu Qreinat said almost nothing had changed since classes began, apart from seven classroom doors installed at Abu Qreinat school. The Education Ministry said all 11 institutions were approved for 2026–27, acknowledged infrastructure challenges and would examine the findings with the responsible regional councils and professionals.
