Vessel Struck by Projectile in Hormuz Outbound Transit, Crew Casualty Reported

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of a hazy view across the Strait of Hormuz from a hillside on the Omani coast: three wooden dhows ride at anchor in the near water while grey cargo ships and tankers are strung along the pale distant horizon, all framed by the bare branches of a foreground tree arching across the top and left of the frame, drawn in warm ochre and slate-blue chalk and pastel strokes with cross-hatching on sepia newsprint.

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said it received a report that a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile while conducting an outbound transit of the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel's company security officer reported that the impact damaged the engine room and resulted in a crew casualty. The remaining crew are being assisted by the Omani Coast Guard, and no environmental impact has been reported. The authority did not attribute the strike to any party. Three other vessels were struck in the strait on August 14, including two tankers hit by drones on outbound transits, with their crews reported safe.
