The officer Israel secretly sent into the mountains of Iraq has died at 92.
Brig. Gen. (res.) Tzuri Sagi advised Mustafa Barzani's Kurdish rebels against the Iraqi army, adapting combat tactics to the mountain terrain and helping raise two assault battalions, some of whose men trained near Daliyat al-Karmel. A veteran of the 1956 Mitla Pass battle, he went on to command reserve paratroopers in the Yom Kippur War before his 1984 discharge.
