How Lumus puts a digital image in clear glass

Lumus is an Israeli company that develops optical components for augmented-reality displays. Its reflective light guides carry a projected digital image through glass while the surrounding world remains visible. Augmented reality layers digital information over a real view.
A miniature projector supplies the image. Partly reflective mirrors within the glass direct some of that image light toward the viewer’s eye. The diagrams show the basic mechanism in a simplified form.
Manufacturing starts by coating glass plates. The plates are stacked and bonded with optical adhesive, then the block is sliced to expose the mirror layers. The resulting pieces are polished, shaped and tested.
On 9 September 2026, Lumus announced a manufacturing agreement with Crystal-Optech to expand production capacity and diversify its supply chain. The announcement concerned its optical components; it did not announce a new consumer-glasses launch.
