Anti-Israel Candidate Wins Colorado House Primary

Melat Kiros

Democratic socialist Melat Kiros defeated 15-term Rep. Diana DeGette in Colorado's Denver-area Democratic primary, an upset called late Tuesday. Israel policy was central to the race. Kiros called for ending U.S. military aid to Israel, backed an arms embargo, described the Hamas-led October 7 massacre as "inevitable" and declined to call the Boulder firebombing of hostage-release marchers antisemitic. The district is heavily Democratic, making her strongly favored in November. The result is a warning that pro-Israel Americans must organize early to defend Israel's legitimacy and bipartisan U.S.-Israel security cooperation.
