US-Saudi Hormuz Rift Widens Over Iran War

The Wall Street Journal reported July 1 that the United States is considering reducing its military footprint in Saudi Arabia after Riyadh resisted Project Freedom, the American effort to open the Strait of Hormuz during the Iran war. WSJ says Saudi bases and airspace were critical, more than 100 U.S. aircraft were already moving, and Washington threatened to delay interceptor deliveries; Kan carried the report for Israeli audiences. Earlier Times of Israel, Jerusalem Post and Ynet/NBC reporting described the same Saudi pushback, while also noting Saudi and White House responses. For Israel, the strategic signal is clear: Washington will need reliable allies while Iran uses Hormuz and Hezbollah as pressure points.
