NATO Chief Backs U.S. Iran Strikes as Necessary

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said Wednesday at the Ankara summit that the latest U.S. strikes on Iran were necessary because Iran was violating the ceasefire, pointing to the previous day's attacks on ships near the Strait of Hormuz. Reports say U.S. forces hit more than 80 Iranian targets after three commercial vessels were attacked, while Tehran answered with strikes toward U.S. sites in Kuwait and Bahrain. For Israel, the statement matters because a major Western alliance is publicly treating Iranian maritime attacks as the breach, not as a grievance to excuse. Jerusalem needs that clarity as it coordinates with Washington against Tehran's nuclear, missile and proxy threats.
