Government Refuses to Recognize Second Authority Council Decisions
The government on July 5 unanimously approved Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi and Justice Minister Yariv Levin's proposal on the Second Authority Council. The declaration says the state will not recognize any council decision, approval, appointment or action while the council lacks the statutory threshold the government says section 21 requires. The move follows the Supreme Court's June 17 interim ruling allowing the outgoing council to keep operating despite resignations. Israel needs media pluralism and lawful elected-government authority, but constitutional fights must stay anchored in clear law, institutional restraint and public trust.
