Former Supreme Court Presidents Warn Defiance Risks Anarchy
Five retired Supreme Court leaders, former presidents and a former acting president, warned that government refusal to honor court orders in the Second Authority dispute would endanger Israel's rule-of-law framework. The statement, signed by Aharon Barak, Dorit Beinisch, Asher Grunis, Esther Hayut and Uzi Vogelman, said defiance of judicial orders risks anarchy and concentrates governing power in one body. It followed the cabinet's move to reject the legal effect of the current Second Authority council despite the High Court's interim order keeping it active. Israel's elected leadership can argue forcefully over media regulation, but binding court orders must be handled through lawful channels.
