Education Ministry Sets Tefillin Rules for State Schools
The Education Ministry issued a July 6 Director-General circular setting uniform national rules for students who want to put on tefillin in state schools. The policy tells principals to allow interested students to do so on school grounds, allocate a dignified place such as a study room, library corner or multipurpose space, set recess-only times and publish the school procedure in the regulations. Students remain responsible for bringing their own tefillin and returning to class on time, while schools are urged to implement the rules through dialogue with teachers, parents and student councils. The move protects Jewish tradition in Israel's public schools while keeping order, respect and learning continuity for every student.
