Haredi Lawmakers Deepen Opposition to Karhi Communications Bill

Haredi Lawmakers Deepen Opposition to Karhi Communications Bill

A same-hour update says United Torah Judaism chairman Yitzhak Goldknopf and Degel HaTorah chairman Moshe Gafni will vote against Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi's Communications Bill, deepening the coalition problem around a flagship media reform. Earlier reports show Haredi objections centered on Shabbat broadcasts, content standards and stalled Torah-community legislation. The move matters because every coalition vote is tight before recess and election season. It also shows Torah-observant partners insisting that media regulation respect Jewish public standards, not only coalition timing.
