Religious Recruits Demand Joint-Service Order Be Canceled
Current July 6 Israel-time reporting says hundreds of hesder yeshiva students, pre-army academy students and reservists from 27 institutions plan an emergency Jerusalem conference next week over the IDF's joint-service order. Organizers from Chotam and Oz BaNamer say mixed service in combat units expanded during the war and can make it harder for observant soldiers to serve according to halacha and military discipline. Rabbi Dror Aryeh said they want the order canceled and called kedushat hamachaneh part of victory. Israel should respect religious soldiers' Torah commitments while keeping the IDF unified, combat-ready and attentive to every soldier's dignity.
