Germany Increases Yad Vashem Funding to EUR5 Million Yearly

Germany and Israel signed an agreement increasing German support for Yad Vashem to EUR5 million a year through 2030. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during the latter's Israel visit, and the agreement directs the funding to Holocaust research, documentation, education and commemoration. The new terms revise a 2020 arrangement that set German support at EUR1 million a year from 2022 through 2031, with the annual level returning to EUR1 million in 2031. The agreement puts Holocaust memory at the center of Israel-Germany ties as antisemitism rises again across Europe.
