Germany’s New Ambassador Begins Term in Israel, Vows to Deepen Ties

Alexander Graf Lambsdorff began serving as Germany’s new ambassador to Israel after arriving in Tel Aviv, succeeding Steffen Seibert at the end of his four-year term. Lambsdorff said he wants to take the countries’ close cooperation to the next level and described their relationship as rooted in a painful shared history. He previously served as Germany’s ambassador to Russia from 2023 to 2026 and earlier represented the Free Democratic Party in the Bundestag and European Parliament. The career diplomat said he looks forward to meeting people across Israel and further developing bilateral relations.
