Knesset Advances October 7 Memorial Bill to Final Votes

After almost two years of sensitive committee work, the Knesset Education, Culture and Sports Committee unanimously approved the October 7 memorial framework bill for its final plenum votes. The proposal establishes an annual state memorial day on 24 Tishrei for the Hamas-led massacre and creates a national memory authority to oversee a central western Negev memorial site, museum and archive. Reports said the council will include government representatives, bereaved families, former hostages and their families, Nova survivors, western Negev communities and rural movements. The broad support, from more than 80 MKs, gives Israel a formal state path to preserve memory, grief and heroism without letting the atrocity fade.
