Burnham Says UK Must Put More Pressure on Israel

Andy Burnham, described in British reports as prime minister-in-waiting, said Thursday that the UK was too slow to call for a Gaza ceasefire and must put more pressure on Israel. He apologized for Labour's initial Gaza response, said the party got it wrong, and noted existing arms-license restrictions meant to prevent British weapons from being used by the IDF in Gaza or the West Bank. Burnham also said a future government should consider further sanctions and a ban on goods from Israeli settlements. He condemned Hamas's October 7 attack and antisemitic attacks in the UK.
