Egypt Extends Coach After Israeli-Flag Confrontation Video

Egypt's Football Association approved a contract extension for national-team coach Hossam Hassan after Egypt's Round of 16 exit, with reports saying he is expected to lead the team through the 2030 World Cup. The decision came after video from the Argentina match showed Hassan appearing to spit toward, and move toward, a fan waving an Israeli flag before security restrained him. Earlier in the tournament, Hassan waved a Palestinian flag after Egypt beat Australia and dedicated the win to Egyptians and Palestinians. The latest incident drew Israeli and international coverage because the confrontation centered on Israel's national flag during a global sports event.
