EU Ministers Debate Israeli Settlement Trade Ban in Brussels

European Union foreign ministers began discussing a possible bloc-wide import ban on products from Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria at a Brussels meeting on Monday. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said member states had repeatedly requested options and that ministers would test whether the European Commission's proposals could draw stronger support. The options include import licensing, prohibitive tariffs, and a partial or full ban; diplomats said no concrete decision was expected from the session. Israel disputes the international characterization of the communities as illegal, describing the territory as disputed and pointing to the Jewish people's millennia-old presence there.
