Second Questioning of Shas MK Haim Biton Disclosed in Funds Probe

Fresh reports Monday morning disclosed that Shas MK Haim Biton was questioned under caution by Lahav 433 on Sunday night in supplementary proceedings over alleged misuse of public education funds. Investigators suspect money allocated to the Ma'ayan HaChinuch HaTorani network was used while Biton was its director-general to finance publication and distribution of a children's supplement attached to the Shas-affiliated HaDerech newspaper. Biton was first questioned in the case in March 2025. Reports said the yearlong investigation is nearing completion and may soon be transferred to the State Attorney and attorney general for a decision on possible charges.
