Security Review Delays Netanyahu Family Protection Decision

The advisory panel on dignitary protection has repeatedly delayed its meeting on a request to extend Shin Bet security for Sara, Yair and Avner Netanyahu for five years beyond 2026. Security bodies have not submitted professional assessments, prompting disagreement over whether the panel should recommend an extension without them. The request would run through 2031 even if Benjamin Netanyahu is no longer prime minister after the October election. Officials familiar with the process expect protection to continue because of threats linked to Israel's strikes on Iranian, Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, but say the unresolved questions are duration and whether to set it automatically now.
