Kushner Calls for New Gaza Aid Model Tied to Hamas Demilitarization

Illustrative public-domain portrait of Jared Kushner during a 2017 U.S. Defense Department meeting

Jared Kushner called for a new model of financial support for Gaza during a closed-door video briefing with European and Arab ministers linked to a nearly €900 million recovery package. He said the existing aid system had allowed a consistent flow of money to reach Hamas, which used funds for weapons, tunnels and rockets. Kushner argued that reconstruction cannot succeed while armed groups retain military capabilities, summarizing the requirement as one government with one gun. He urged donors to replace repeated short-term relief conferences with a structure tied to Hamas’s demilitarization and intended to eliminate the need for future donor meetings.
