IDF Spokesman Defends Zamir Against 'Cheap' Political Attacks

IDF Spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin defended Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir after coalition politicians attacked the military chief over his warning against the law freezing arrests of Haredi draft evaders. Defrin said Zamir was fulfilling his professional duty by presenting the IDF’s position and that some criticism had become irrelevant and 'cheap.' He said an attack on the chief of staff harms the entire military because Zamir represents commanders, Golani soldiers, tank crews, sailors and pilots. Defrin also said the law would not bring soldiers into the IDF.
