Rubio and Aoun Advance Israel-Lebanon Framework in Washington

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun discussed implementing the June 26 Israel-Lebanon framework during talks in Washington. The State Department said Rubio praised Beirut's efforts to restore sovereignty, disarm Hezbollah, dismantle its infrastructure and move toward peace. Reports citing Lebanese sources said the two also reached an understanding on a full Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon. Aoun is due to present President Donald Trump with a plan covering Hezbollah's disarmament and Israel's withdrawal, while the framework ties implementation to Lebanese Army control and the dismantling of non-state armed groups.
