Former Paratroopers Commander Ami Biton to Retire Without Promotion

Col. Ami Biton, former commander of the IDF Paratroopers Brigade, is expected to leave military service in the coming weeks without promotion to brigadier general or command of a division. The reports describe it as the first time in more than 50 years that a Paratroopers Brigade commander will end service without advancing to brigadier general. Biton commanded the brigade on October 7 and during early war operations in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria. The decision follows a military review that found ethical failings and included allegations of humiliating and mistreating subordinates; Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had nevertheless sent him for studies ahead of a possible division command.
