Mekorot Opens Solar-and-Storage Tender for Up to 10 Reservoirs

Mekorot opened a procurement process to build up to 10 solar power facilities with storage systems on water reservoirs across Israel. The installations are planned for about 100 megawatts of generation and roughly 400 megawatt-hours of storage, providing four to six hours of electricity. Selected developers will design, build and operate the projects, while the national water company retains first refusal to buy the power for its operations and can sell unused output to the grid. Energy Minister Eli Cohen said the program would strengthen energy security, support continuous supply in routine and emergencies, and advance renewable-electricity targets.
