Israel Opens Prequalification for 400-Million-Cubic-Meter Emek Hefer Desalination Plant

The special seawater-desalination tender committee in the Accountant General Division opened prequalification for an international PPP tender to design, finance, build, operate and maintain a plant in Emek Hefer. The proposed 25-year concession would produce 400 million cubic meters of water annually, about 40% of the yearly potable-water use of Israeli households and industry. Plans cover roughly 200 dunams and allow a gas-fired power station of up to 300 megawatts. Officials said the project would strengthen national water supply and could support expanded deliveries to Jordan under Prosperity Blue.
