Israel Sets Four Security Red Lines for Netanyahu-Trump Meeting

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Sara Netanyahu standing beside the blue State of Israel aircraft before their Washington departure

Israel’s security establishment formulated four red lines for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with President Donald Trump: removal of Iran’s enriched uranium, freedom to act against threats in Iran, Gaza, Syria and Lebanon, retention of buffer zones along the Syrian and Lebanese borders, and preservation of the IDF’s technological edge. Officials expect pressure on Israel to leave the border zones and are also watching a possible F-35 sale to Turkey. Netanyahu said Iran will top Tuesday’s White House talks. Security officials remain on high alert in case U.S.-Iran negotiations collapse.
