Retired IDF Maj. Gen. Aviezer Yaari Dies at 96

Retired IDF Maj. Gen. Aviezer Yaari died Monday at 96, the military announced. Yaari joined the IDF in 1948 and served for nearly four decades, including as head of the Military Intelligence Research Division, Northern Command intelligence officer and commander of the National Security College. Days before the 1973 Yom Kippur War, while leading the Syria, Lebanon and Iraq desk, he warned that Egyptian and Syrian exercises could be preparations for a joint attack and was reprimanded. He is survived by three daughters and will be buried Wednesday in Kibbutz Merhavia.
