Heat Wave Forecast Puts Northern Israel at 47 Degrees Sunday

The Israel Meteorological Service forecast that a dry heat wave will begin Friday and peak Saturday and Sunday, bringing heavy to extreme heat stress nationwide. It said the Lake Kinneret area and northern valleys could reach 47 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which would be the region's highest temperature in 30 years if realized. Earlier guidance put the Jordan Valley at 46 degrees, the Arava and Kinneret area at 44 to 45, and the Golan, northern valleys, Galilee and Negev at 38 to 42. Strong northern winds will also raise fire risk.
