Israeli Partnership Expands Pediatric Heart Surgery Capacity in Zambia

An Israeli Save a Child's Heart team assisted 10 pediatric open-heart surgeries during a weeklong mission at Zambia's National Heart Hospital and mentored local clinicians. The partners also inaugurated a $200,000 heart-lung machine, giving the hospital capacity to support two open-heart operations simultaneously. Zambia's first pediatric cardiac surgeon completed a six-year fellowship with the Israeli organization in 2024, while a second Zambian surgeon is now in the fifth year of the same training. The cooperation has brought about $3 million in equipment and clinical development to Zambia since 2007.
