Likud Tribunal Bars Sitting Lawmakers From District Primary Slots

Likud's Supreme Tribunal barred sitting and former Knesset members, ministers and deputy ministers from competing for district slots in the party's upcoming primary, overturning a conference vote that had passed by five votes. The five-member panel cited constitutional problems and procedural irregularities, including mismatches between voter, envelope and ballot counts, while leaving Netanyahu's eight reserved list positions in place. It restored slot 35 to the nationwide list and extended candidacy filings by 48 hours. The majority said district slots are intended to cultivate new leadership; a dissenting judge said the evidence did not justify reversing the result.
