Israel Has Held Hamas Commander Basel Salahiya for Two Years

Israel has held Basel Salahiya, a former senior Hamas military-wing operative, for two years and he is expected to stand trial, according to reports published Sunday evening. Salahiya had accused Marwan Issa of treason and quarreled with Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, leading Sinwar to imprison him. After an Israeli strike hit the jail at the start of the war, Hamas moved him to house arrest in Hamad City, where IDF troops later detained him. Salahiya was responsible for Hamas's 2011 Kornet missile attack on a school bus that killed 16-year-old Daniel Viflich.
