Federal Judge Dismisses U.S. Antisemitism Suit Against Harvard

U.S. District Judge Richard G. Stearns dismissed the Justice Department's Title VI enforcement suit against Harvard University, granting the school's motion under Rule 12(b)(6). The government sued on March 20, alleging Harvard failed to protect Jewish and Israeli students during the 2023-24 academic year and citing three later incidents in March 2025. Stearns found those later events too isolated and episodic to plausibly show ongoing institutional noncompliance. Because statutory notice was issued on June 30, 2025, and the amended complaint alleged no violations afterward, the court said the case could not proceed, expressly limiting the ruling to those circumstances.
