Iran Says Hormuz Transit Route Map Agreed With Oman as 60-Day Period Expires

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei told his weekly news conference in Tehran on Monday that an understanding has been reached on the map of the Strait of Hormuz transit route. He said Tehran still plans to finalize the arrangement with Oman as a package combining the route map and a joint statement, which is not concluded. Baghaei attributed the delay to the issue's complexity, the number of actors involved and what he called malicious interference. Iran closed the strait, which carried about a fifth of the world's traded oil, after Israel and the United States struck the country on February 28. The 60-day negotiating period from the June memorandum with Washington expired Monday.
