Attorney General Tells High Court Haredi Men Are 80% of Draft Dodgers

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara told the High Court in an August 18 filing that Haredi men account for about 80% of all draft dodgers despite increased enlistment. The filing reported 4,298 Haredi enlistments in recruitment year 2025, up from 2,811 a year earlier. It said authorities filed 348 indictments against draft dodgers since the start of 2026, including 34 against Haredi men, and that coordinated arrests are often hampered by large protests. Baharav-Miara urged an urgent expansion of personal economic-enforcement measures and the resumption of proactive enforcement across all populations under the equality principle.
