IDF Lets Southern Command Approve Targeted Gaza Strikes After Kushner Visit
The IDF has lowered approval for targeted Gaza strikes from the chief of staff to the Southern Command chief after Jared Kushner’s visit and diplomatic contacts failed to produce a breakthrough. Especially sensitive operations will still require approval from the chief of staff or political echelon. The revised policy directs forces to identify and strike kite launchers and those directing them; about 10 kites were launched during the preceding week and a half, including four on Saturday, with none since Monday. Israeli security officials estimate forces are targeting three to four Hamas operatives daily, while the IDF controls 63% to 64% of Gaza.
