Eleven Researchers at Israeli Universities Win ERC Starting Grants

Eleven researchers at five Israeli universities won 2026 European Research Council Starting Grants. The winners are based at Tel Aviv University, Bar-Ilan University, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, the Technion and the Weizmann Institute of Science. Their projects span quantum computing, medicine, artificial intelligence, mathematics and behavioral science. The ERC awarded €705 million to 421 early-career researchers selected from 4,807 proposals, an 8.8% funding rate. Each Starting Grant provides up to €1.5 million over as many as five years, with additional funding available for major equipment, facilities or costly fieldwork.
