U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the European Union has officially joined Operation Economic Outcast, the U.S.-led campaign to pressure Iran. The EU earlier said it welcomed the initiative and would coordinate with Washington, the G7 and other partners while remaining ready for additional sanctions. Treasury launched the operation on August 24 to target Iran’s economic lifelines across digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping. Bessent said the effort is intended to deny Iran access to the global financial system for funding its nuclear ambitions, weapons programs and terror proxies.
