Kenya Confirms First Imported Ebola Case After Patient Dies in Nairobi

Courtroom-sketch editorial illustration of an unoccupied hospital bed with a white pillow, bedside flowers and wall-mounted medical instruments, adapted from an archival reference photograph as generic healthcare context rather than a depiction of the reported patient or event, rendered in warm ochre and slate-blue pastel strokes.

Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease on October 6, after a Kenyan citizen who had fallen ill in the Democratic Republic of the Congo died in Nairobi on October 5. The patient travelled by road to Kampala on October 2 and arrived in Nairobi by air on October 3. Two Kenyan laboratories confirmed the virus after the patient was isolated in hospital. Authorities listed 28 contacts, including relatives and health workers, and are tracing 23 passengers and 4 crew members from the flight. Kenya notified WHO and is strengthening contact monitoring, entry-point screening and public communication.
