Israel Reports Record Intake of 1,649 Medical Students

The Health Ministry reported on October 15 that 1,649 students began medical studies in Israel this academic year, a record intake and about 14% more than last year's 1,448. The total is about 82% above the 907 who entered five years earlier. It also exceeds by 127 the target of 1,522 entrants set in an October 2024 government decision. The ministry attributed the expansion to cooperation with higher-education bodies, the Finance Ministry, medical schools and hospitals to increase teaching and training capacity while maintaining the quality of medical education.
