Former Soroka Doctor Sentenced to 27 Months for ISIS Membership

Prosecutors announced Monday that Beersheba Magistrate’s Court sentenced Dr. Muhammad Azzam, who worked at Soroka Medical Center, to 27 months in prison for membership in ISIS. The sentence also includes 12 months’ suspended imprisonment and a NIS 15,000 fine, with time already detained deducted. According to the prosecution’s summary, he pledged allegiance to the terrorist group’s leader after the October 7 attack and retained instructions for making explosives and poisons. The court considered his medical access to patients an aggravating risk. Prosecutors forwarded his details to the Health Ministry to consider revoking his medical licence.
