The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court convicted MK Ofer Cassif of aggravated assault on a police officer. The case concerned a confrontation during a May 13, 2022 demonstration in the South Hebron Hills, when the court found he deliberately drove into officer Yitzhak Azoulay’s leg and then struck his head. Relying on video evidence and witnesses, the court rejected Cassif’s claim of self-defense, as well as his parliamentary-immunity and selective-enforcement arguments. Officers had stopped his vehicle for safety reasons and to prevent entry into Area A, while permitting him to continue on foot.
