The Samaria military court sentenced Nazmi Abu Bakr to life imprisonment on October 8 and ordered compensation exceeding ₪4 million for killing Staff Sgt. Amit Ben Yigal. Abu Bakr had been convicted on May 11, 2026, of intentionally causing death and obstruction of justice. The court found that during an operation to arrest wanted suspects in Ya’bad on May 12, 2020, he threw half a brick weighing 9–11 kilograms from a roof at IDF soldiers, intending to kill them. The brick struck Ben Yigal and killed him.
