The Central-Lod District Court on Monday partially upheld former Israel Bar Association chairman Efi Nave’s civil suit over access to his password-protected phones. Judge Oren Schwartz found that former Army Radio reporter Hadas Shtayf initiated and facilitated the intrusion, with the state bearing vicarious liability for her actions at work. Shtayf and the state were ordered to pay NIS 450,000 jointly and severally, plus costs and legal fees. Shtayf separately owes NIS 25,000 for defamation over a Facebook post. Claims against other journalists were dismissed because they received the material in good faith without knowing how it had been obtained.
